T-Shirts: Custom apparel from www.4-hmall.org. minimum of 12 per order. Not too bad for pricing. Should we get them? Ethan thinks we should get a white shirt and then Tie-dye it. Motion to approve by David seconded by Ethan. Design #TS41. Approved order of 12 of them.

Marissa motioned that the CATT fund Tie-dye kits for the shirts. The motion was approved.

Neal Smith project update by David. Haven’t accomplished much yet.

Discussion for June Meeting. Throw a pizza party! Hopefully we will not get the Tie-Dye mixed with the pepperoni. David suggested Casey’s pizza. Ethan motioned that the CATT would consume copious quantities of Casey’s Pizza, which was seconded by Kyle (club expense).

A survey was taken at the end of the meeting for suggestions for the next year.

For CATT members interested in taking a project to the Story County Fair, see http://sc-fair.com. Mary is coming at 2:30 to discuss specifics of the fair and what changes are being made. State fair opportunities are possible through the county fair. Robotics and video competitions.

The CATT watched the 4-H Film Festival video for the Iowa State Fair. Participants make a film and the winner of best film receives an Apple iPad.

If you’ve just finished 8th grade you can sign up for the state conference. You don’t have to be in 4-H to go, so ask your friends.

At this point we all realized that we hadn’t done the pledges so we did them now. The next meeting of the CATT will take place on June 11. There will be no business meeting, just an achievement show, Tie-dye-ing of the new shirts for those who want to, and pizza party.

At 1:53 Ethan motioned to adjourn the meeting, with a second from Kyle. The motion was passed and the meeting was adjourned at 1:53 PM.

The meeting was called to order at 1:10 PM. Ten members were present. The role call question was “What are you doing for spring break?” The club’s answers were recorded as follows:

• David: A four day spring break.

• Marissa: Is going on vacation to a cabin.

• Nathaniel: Is doing nothing.

• Andrew: Is moving down the block. *nudges Nathaniel*

• Kyle: Practicing for soccer.

• Will: Going to Chicago.

• Craige: Going to grandmother’s.

• Jake: Not doing much.

• Zach: Not doing anything.

• Alex: Doing homework.

The pledges were led by Alex and David. The treasurers report was given. Current balance in the CATT funds is $400.10. Alex motioned to approve the report, David seconded. The motion was passed. The secretary’s report was given. Zach motioned to approve the report, seconded by Craige. The secretary’s report was approved.

Club T-Shirt designs were discussed but the decision was postponed until next meeting due to a lack of them. CATT members are welcome to bring designs to the next meeting. The CATT brochure will be handled by Marissa and Ethan.

David has been talking to “Debbie and a kid and her mom from fish and wildlife.” The CATT will receive a grant including eight iPhones with data plans. Five iPhones will belong to the club. The CATT will map 80 acres, marking oak and hickory trees. The CATT will begin mapping on April 2^nd in cooperation with the SEATT. Wear pants.

Fund raiser for 2011 — Discussion. Several possibilities were considered, including selling Hex Bugs or flash drives. After discussion the CATT tipped their hats to the possibility of holding a public workshop with rocketry.

The website theme will be changed from “Desk Mess”. Only five people (out of the ten present) had visited www.centralareatechteam.org in the last two months.

The County Fair is quickly approaching. You can do about anything you want for the fair; there are many different categories. Possible activities include presentations, posters, photography, and other forms of communication.

The Intermediate 4H trip is coming up, however you must complete 8th grade by the end of this year in order to participate. For those of you who need to catch up on 4H paperwork, spring break would be a good time to work on recordkeeping.

The activity of next month’s meeting will be rocket launching.

The president called the meeting to order at 2:35 PM. The treasurer’s report was given by Zach. The current balance of CATT funds is $423.95. Ethan motioned to approve the treasurer’s report, seconded by Alex. The motion was passed.

The minutes were tabled until the next meeting because there was no available computer to view them on. You can view them by going to the Central Area Tech Team website at http://www.centralareatechteam.org/.

The possibility of holding a robotics session before the next meeting was discussed. After discussion it was decided that the robotics session WILL be held prior to the March club mtg. Any and all club members are welcome. If you have a robot, bring it with you.

The annual 4H Communication Contest is coming up soon. Members should have received a letter in the mail with details. The deadline for entries into the contest is March 7th. For more information, read the 4H newsletter and check the 4H website. A volunteer was needed to redesign the CATT brochure. Marissa (bravely) volunteered for the position, with help from Ethan possibly?

Members are encouraged to bring their designs for the new club T-Shirts to the next meeting, when they will be voted on and orders taken (at March/April mtgs).

The Central Area Tech Team and the SouthEast Area Tech Team (CATT and SEATT) will work together on some GIS work involving trails at the Neal Smith Wildlife Refuge near Prairie City. This is because of a special grant received by Iowa 4-H from the National Fish & Wildlife Service. After project completion, both clubs will make a joint presentation in Omaha about the results at the National 4-H staff conference in October.

At the March 12^th meeting, the CATT will start building rockets. Members will learn how to build them and start them, then finish their rockets at home. The rockets will be fired at the following meeting.

Reminder: The ITEC Fair is coming up soon. The entries are limited to 250 this year because of all the applications they get, so sign up soon. Jane has information if you want to get signed up.

The next meeting will be held at the Extension Office – 1 pm on March 12^th (10:30 is the pre-meeting robotics workshop). Zach motioned to adjourn the meeting, which was seconded by Ethan. The meeting was adjourned at 2:50 PM.

The activity of the day was working with NXC (Not eXactly C) to program the Lego NXT at the ISU Toying With Technology Lab in Howe Hall on campus.

The meeting was called to order by the President at 1:24 PM on November 13. Seven people were present at the meeting. The treasurers report was given and approved. The current balance is $343.10 in the CATT funds.

Discussion about a computer project (installing digital communication hardware and software in assisted living homes) was held.
For the next meeting (December 2010) it was suggested the people would bring video games (Xboxs and Wiis) and snacks. Games would be followed by officer installations.
The possibility of a winter campout was discussed, but decided against.
Marissa motioned to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Zach. All were in favor. The meeting was adjourned at 2:01 PM.

Extension 4-H Building @ ISU – Ames

The meeting was called to order by acting president Zach at 1:09 PM, Saturday October 9th. Nine members were present for the meeting. After introductions, the Treasurer’s report was given, current balance in the treasury is $353.95. A pending bill of $13.00 for Jane to purchase supplies for the CATT window display was successfully approved for payment by Ethan, with Andrew seconding the motion.


A report on the club’s Cloverland activity Oct. 3rd was given by Nathan and Andrew. The activity (designed to encourage new 4-Hers to join the CATT) was taking individual photos of guests, and the guests could embellish them with Picnik free software on the 2 laptops we used (see http://www.picnik.com/ ). It was a big hit with those who used it, and they got to access the photo at home if they wanted to print or share it!


Discussion was made about a new grant opportunity available to 4-H clubs in the state for service learning. At the November meeting, members are encouraged to come prepared with ideas for a club service learning project this year. Service Learning has to encompass a service performed for the community, as well as a learning experience for the participants. Past examples of CATT service learning projects are the mapping of the 4-H campground and the mapping of the Arboretum.


For the last few years the CATT has held club awards & an annual potluck for our November meeting. This year, a suggestion was made to come up with new ideas and decide if the potluck should be changed. We will also hold this in Dec. because County Awards are not given until after our next meeting, the eve. of Nov. 13th. The members discussed possibilities for the Dec. mtg. family event and came up with a list.

The ski/tubing trip was vetoed due to the amount the CATT would have to spend on insurance. Craige motioned for a combination of the board games and the video games (plus food), which Andrew seconded. The motion was passed.

The activity for the day was film making. Jed Findlay, video producer for ISU Extension, demonstrated how professional videos are put together and how simple equipment can make good movies with practice. Videos were shot of various subjects from various angles, and will be edited into movies at the next meeting.
